* The Massiers

(Jérôme, Clément, Delphin, Cédric) are a family dynasty of ceramists which dates back beyond the French Revolution and which played a key role in the renaissance of Vallauris ceramics. A true dynasty, the Massiers were mentioned as early as 1627 in Vallauris. Honoré Massier, born in 1782, had two sons: Jérôme and Jacques. Jacques Massier (1806-1871) has two sons: Delphin (1836-1907) and Clément (1844-1917). Jérôme (1820-1909) has a son: Jean-Baptiste (1850-1916), known as Jérôme Massier Fils. The Massiers called on renowned artists to come and work with them: the Swiss sculptor James Vibert (1872-1942), Opta Milet, ceramist from Sèvres, and the painters Lucien Lévy-Durhmer, and Jules Scalbert, etc. The factory of Jérôme Massier Fils (1820-1909) was sold to P.Perret on May 3, 1899.
