Glazed ceramic vase by Théodore Deck* with orientalist (Iznik) - Asian (Meiping) inspired decoration of colored flowers and foliage (cherry or prunus blossoms on one side, peony flowers on the other), from the 19th century.

This vase is in good condition and is of very good quality. It is composed of two parts (the vase and its pedestal support), both signed TD. This vase is a mixture of orientalist inspiration (the floral decorations can be reminiscent of the motifs of Turkish Iznik productions) and Asian (this vase can be close to the Chinese Meiping vases**)

** A meiping vase is a Chinese ceramic vase 1 in which flowering plum branches are traditionally placed. The meiping vase is narrow at the bottom, and, after a wider body, narrows at the top, ending in a narrow opening.

Please note: the screw that held the two parts together may be missing, original drips from the decorations, some enamel defects and slight wear from time, see photos.

* Théodore Deck (1823-1891)

At 18 he entered as an apprentice with master Hügelin where he learned the techniques of inlaying colored pastes and spent his free time creating new clay models. In 1840, when his father died, he took over the family silk dyeing business with his brother, it was a failure. In 1958 the Deck brothers opened their ceramic workshop. In 1861 Théodore Deck exhibited his works for the first time, these were inlay pieces, or pieces covered with enamel and pieces in the style of Iznick ceramics. Deck's reputation was launched. In 1864, he managed to present pieces covered with transparent, non-cracked enamels, this technique allowed him to make characters, birds, flowers evolve under a turquoise, green, yellow or manganese glaze. Throughout his career he trained several renowned ceramists such as Edmond Lachena, Félix Bracquemond. He also worked with many painters such as Eugène Glück and Émile-Auguste Reiber.
