Set of 5 watercolor engravings by Martinet * representing birds: the Harle (male and female), the Cayenne and Philippine Crabbird and the female Merle, boards made for the Natural History of Buffon Birds, fine period edition 19th-early 20th century.

These engravings are in good condition. They are under glass. Two of these are reissues from the National Library of Ireland.

A note: accidents, scratches and small gaps on frames, some light yellowing on paper, wear time, see photos.

* François-Nicolas Martinet (1731-1800):

is a French engineer and engraver. He has engraved many natural history books, including ornithology. He worked in particular on Mathurin Jacques Brisson's Ornithologie (1760) and the Natural History of Buffon's Birds. The engravings of François-Nicolas Martinet have remained famous for the precision of the proportions and the realism of the colors.
