The orthodox festival of "Pokrov" or "feast of Our Lady of All Protection" is a festival of Russian origin: it commemorates an apparition of the Mother of God in Constantinople in the church of Blachernae. The iconography may vary: the icon of the Pokrov represents the Mother of God standing with her arms raised, in a Byzantine church decoration, and accompanied by the saints. The Virgin sometimes unfurls her veil. Above, stands the Christ bust, to whom the prayer of his Mother is addressed.
