or the Icon of the Mother of God of Smolensk is a miraculous icon venerated by the Orthodox, and especially in Russia. The icons of Our Lady of Smolensk show the Virgin and the Child Jesus seated on the left arm of his Mother. The Virgin waves her hand towards Jesus, as if to show the way, while her Son blesses with his right hand. This representation of the Mother of God is said to be of the Odigitria type. She is more solemn than Our Lady of Kazan. The center of the composition moves towards the Christ-Child who already presents himself as Pantocrator.
