* François de Sales (1567–1622), born at the Château de Sales near Thorens-Glières (a town in the Duchy of Savoy; and today a commune in the department of Haute-Savoie), was a Savoyard bishop, proclaimed a saint and doctor of the Catholic Church.

Marguerite-Marie Alacoque, a Burgundian nun, born on July 22, 1647 in Verosvres and died on October 17, 1690 in Paray-le-Monial, was a mystic of the Order of the Visitation, and the inspiration, with Jean Eudes, priest of the Oratory, for the cult of the Sacred Heart. She was canonized in 1920.

Vincent de Paul (1581 or 1576-1660) was a leading figure in the spiritual and apostolic renewal of the 17th century in France, a priest and founder of congregations who worked throughout his life to alleviate material and moral poverty.

Germaine Cousin, known as Saint Germaine de Pibrac, (1579 - 1601), virgin and Catholic saint, celebrated on June 15. She was born scrofulous, ugly and deformed. Her mother died some time after her birth and her father had nothing but aversion to her. He remarried and her stepmother hated her. They forced her to sleep under the stairs on vine shoots, giving her the bare minimum of food and forbidding her to speak to her stepmother's children. This was the case from the age of nine until she died at the age of twenty-two. She spent her time with the animals in the fields. Not knowing how to read, she recited her rosary. But every morning, she heard Holy Mass, leaving her flock, which never caused any damage to the neighbors, remaining within the limits she marked out for them before leaving. She spoke with God and this was a joy to her. One morning her father found her dead under the stairs and, from that moment on, miracles never ceased to authenticate her holiness. She was canonized in 1867. (Cf Nominis website)
