* Lard stone is a steatite (aluminous silicate, hydrate of iron and magnesia) imitating jade, pale white-green in color with gray and orange marbling. Quite soft, it was used in the Far East for the manufacture of small objects, statuettes, Fô dogs, pagodas, magots, sculpted and polished seals. It was widely imported into Europe in the 18th century.
