* Paul of Tarsus, or Saint Paul:

for Catholics and Orthodox, also bearing the Jewish name of Saul, born at the beginning of the 1st century probably in Tarsus in Cilicia and died around 67 in Rome, is a personality of primitive Christianity. Jew and Roman citizen by birth, he persecuted the disciples of Jesus of Nazareth before claiming to be an apostle of the latter, although he did not belong to the circle of the Twelve. Paul of Tarsus therefore became one of the major figures in the spread of Christianity outside Jewish and Judeo-Christian circles as well as in several primitive Christian communities in Asia Minor, Greece and Rome. During his itinerant mission, which stretched from the 1940s to the 1960s, he addressed a certain number of letters to these first communities. These letters, called “Pauline epistles”, written before the Gospels, are the oldest documents of Christianity. They represent one of the foundations of Christian theology, particularly in the field of Christology, but also, from a historical point of view, a major source on the origins of Christianity.
Attributes: Sword (symbol of his martyrdom) and book (symbol of his writings)
