is a small mechanical calculator produced between 1948 and 1972 by Contina AG Mauren in Liechtenstein. It is composed of a cylindrical body and a small crank making it look like a pepper or coffee grinder.
This very small machine makes it possible to carry out very quickly the four basic arithmetic operations and, after learning, other operations like the square roots. Curta was invented by Curt Herzstark during his imprisonment in the Buchenwald concentration camp. Following the Second World War, he perfected the design. A prototype was produced by Rheinmetallwerke in Weimar. The Prince of Liechtenstein bought the concept and the machine was produced by Contina.
