* The commemorative medal of the campaign of Mexico 1862 was established by a decree of August 29, 1863. This decoration was granted to all those who participated in the operation undertaken by Napoleon III in Mexico, in an attempt to create there, in counterweight of the United States, a nation of European inspiration and set up a sovereign, Maximilian I. This medal was awarded with a diploma to the 38,000 men of the Expeditionary Force as well as to the Navy. Its ribbon is white (ivory tone) with two stripes, one red and the other green of 5 millimeters forming a cross of Saint Andrew. In the center, superimposed is an eagle with naturally spread wings (black Aztec eagle), holding a snake (green) by its beak and talons.
