Rare piece in solid gold called "Golden Horseman" or "franc on horseback" or "golden florin", from Duchy of Brittany, period of Duke François I (1442-1450) or Duke François II (1458-1488). ) 15th century.

On the obverse: "*FRANCISCVS* DEI* GRACIA* - BRITON* DVX R*" (PUNCTUATION BY TWO SUPERIMPOSED STARS). Description: The duke galloping on the right, with a crowned helm, in armor, brandishing a sword in his right hand and holding an ermine shield in his left; the horse's caparison is decorated with ermines. Translation: Francis, by the grace of God, Duke of the Bretons.
On the reverse: "*DEVS* IN* ADIVTORIVM* MEVM* IN* TANDE* R*", (PUNCTUATION BY TWO SUPERIMPOSED STARS). Description: Leafy and trefoil cross with polylobed heart shape, flanked by four ermine speckles in an angled ogival polylobe. Translation: God help me.
