Oushebti, funerary statuette of Ancient Egypt

Superb and rare small Egyptian funerary statuette called Oushebti *, glazed earthenware.

The statuette was reduced by a missionary Father. We bought it in a religious congregation in Britain.

Oushebti This is in good condition, it is in its own juice. It is authentic. It is inscribed on the back.

A note: chip on the left side of the foot wears of time, see pictures.


* The funerary servants

(Shaouabtis, ushabtis in Egypt, "bondsmen", "respondents", "funerary figurines" ...) are small statuettes depicting a figure standing, usually wrapped in strips (mummy), sometimes dressed, grab with arms crossed instruments or various attributes. A text, inscribed on the servant, gives the name and title of the owner, supplemented by Chapter 6 of Book of the Dead which specifies the function of the figure: run in the other world, instead of death, the work agricultural mandatory. The first examples appear in the Middle Kingdom (circa 1991-1786 BC. BC, 12th dynasty). In the New Kingdom (18th Dynasty, 1555-1305 BC. JC, it is still mummified, is amulettes.Tous instruments and materials were used: wood, "Egyptian faience" hues vary the time, terracotta and even bronze.
