At the height of its activity, the upholstery employed over a hundred saddlers to make saddles, harnesses and other saddlery and became, as holder of the Royal Warrant, the most famous saddle the country. The Champion Saddlery is the upholstery of kings, it provided stool to Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, but also the German Emperor, Queen Maud of Norway and Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. The history of this saddle begins in 1786 when Mathew WILTON moved to Oxford Street in London. In 1875 Henry Staines Wilton buys the company that became Champion & Wilton.
