In 1819, the engineer-optician Jean-Baptiste-François SUN (1798-1878) founded the house SUN "Optician the king, passing Vivienne, large gallery No. 23 and its manufacture Poissonniers Street No. 21, near the fence fishmonger ". He makes "all kinds of optical instruments and mathematics." In 1825, he moved to 21 rue de l'Odéon in Paris VI. The company specializes in the manufacture "of optical and precision instruments" for the greatest scholars of the time Fresnel, Arago, Foucault, BABINET, etc. Among his many inventions, there is the heliostat SILBERMANN (1843) but also "a lenticular lighthouse first order eclipses intended to Belle-Ile (Morbihan), or" various optical items such as barometers, thermometers, campaign, binoculars opera glasses, math cassettes, etc ". He obtained many awards in national exhibitions of 1839 and 1841 and by the Society for the Encouragement in 1841 and 1847. At his estate in 1849, the house is divided into two branches one entrusted to Henry SOLEIL his son, and the other to Julius DUBOSCQ, his son. Henri SUN "pupil and successor to his father" is located at 21 rue de l'Odeon was founded in 1825 on the same site. In 1852, the SUN workshop was bought by Louis Sautter.
