Enamelled ceramic ashtray in orange, shaped like a bear's paw, signed by the famous artist Georges Jouve *, vintage twentieth century.
This ashtray is in good condition and is very decorative. It is signed below an alpha.
A note: some small chips and gaps, slight enamelling defects, slight wear of time, see photos.
He has celebrated through many works, an original art whose particularity lies in a subtle balance between the rigor and the imaginary. Having discovered the techniques of the crafts at the Ecole Boulle (where he earned his nickname which will leave him no more: Apollo ), he attended in 1931 the Academies of painting (Grande Chaumiere and Juilian) where the requirement of drawing and mastery of the know-how are passed on to him. From this learning, Georges Jouve retains two concepts, quality and measurement. This is how his first pieces, made from 1941, are immediately related to the tradition of an art loving sober classicism. After years of captivity in Germany, Georges Jouve escaped to seek refuge in Nyons - near Dieulefit in Drôme. He became very passionate about pottery, which became a vocation in its own right: from 1942 to 1944, he made pieces, baked and enamelled, whose forms were inspired by nature. But his taste, already oriented towards the sacred art, led him to conceive objects both ritual and decorative. Back in Paris in 1945, Georges Jouve set up his studio rue de la Tomb Issoire, where he continued, for 9 years, to multiply the forms and diversify the uses. He became a member in 1945 of the Salon des Décorateurs, and together with Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé manifested the desire to open the Decorative Arts to a wider audience.
