Alloy developed by two goldsmiths, Turgot and Daumy, installed at the end of the 18th century in the Hotel de Pomponne, rue de la Verrerie in Paris. It is a copper-based metal designed to mimic gold or silver. Louis XVI had granted them a privilege of manufacture in 1785, whereas until that date, all imitation was forbidden.
