He celebrated through many works, an original art whose particularity lies in a subtle balance between rigor and imagination. Having discovered the techniques of craftsmanship at the Ecole Boulle (where he earned his nickname that will never leave him: Apollon ), he attended in 1931 the Academies of Painting (Grande Chaumière and Juilian) where the requirement of drawing and the mastery of know-how are passed on to him. From this training, Georges Jouve retains two concepts, quality and measurement. This is how his first pieces, produced from 1941, are immediately related to the tradition of an art enamored of a sober classicism. After years of captivity in Germany, Georges Jouve escaped to take refuge in clandestinely in Nyons - near Dieulefit in the Drôme. He quickly developed a passion for pottery which would become a vocation in its own right: from 1942 to 1944, he would manufacture pieces, fired and enamelled, whose shapes were inspired by the surrounding nature. But his taste, already oriented towards sacred art, led him to design objects that were both ritual and decorative. Back in Paris in 1945, Georges Jouve set up his workshop in rue de la Tombe Issoire where, for 9 years, he continued to multiply forms and diversify uses. He became a member in 1945 of the Salon des Décorateurs, and, along with Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé, manifested the desire to open up Decorative Arts to a wider public. (Cf site Jousse)
