It is especially in France that the tradition of Vienna bronze figurines is widespread, it will be imported to Vienna by Mathias Bermann, in 1850. The latter was specialized in metal ornaments for pipes, it is at this date that he begins to melt and paint figurines. This is the beginning of the Vienna bronzes which were to know a worldwide reputation. Towards the end of the 19th century, golden age of metalworking in Vienna, many workshops are created. During the 19th century, artists created nearly 10,000 models of bronze figurines. These famous works were exported to large cities such as New York, London, and Paris. Vienna bronzes are well known for their high technical quality as well as for the great care given to detail, movement and expression. Each of these works is a unique piece, the chiseling is done by hand and the details differ between two pieces. (Cf Magazine ProAntic)
