Fan decorated with romantic, gouache and pearl, 19th

Rare fan decorated with watercolors representing one side two characters (a shepherdess) in a gallant scene in a wooded park of a castle, the young woman sitting contemplating autreune swans on a pond, mount nacre finely decorated golden brass depicting characters and floral motifs, antique eighteenth century.

This range is in good condition, it has undergone some uses of time.

A note: traces of restoration on the sides and the back (gouache had to be glued on the shell), some branches are detached from the gouache, scored on the bottom of another branch (see red arrows) , some wear on the gouache, well look at the pictures.

* From the early eighteenth century, France is the largest producer of variety in Europe. The decor of the first fans is borrowed from French illuminated manuscripts and tapestries. From 1770, the neoclassical influences the production: the branches are less ornate and the sheet is often decorated with medallions. Painted fans return for every day during the Second Empire. The subjects are often imitations of the previous century themes: love scenes or pastoral. The antique fans are sought by collectors. (Larousse)
