Wooden tobacco box in carved wood Black Forest * representing a dog's head smoking cigar and wearing a bow tie and a high collar, late 19th century.
This tobacco pot is in good condition and is of high quality.
Note: missing the axis of the hinge, the piece of wood appearing the cigar is removed, light uusres, scratches and dirt on the wood, well look at the photos.
The wooden carved objects of the Black Forest are not native to Germany but were manufactured in the region of brienz, in Switzerland . The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of wood carved on the facades of houses , the furniture or the usual objects . The sculptors excel in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the 19th century, these naturalistic sculptures of the Black Forest became very popular and popular.
