Old conopea* or tabernacle veil, in fabric and silk (pink-mauve color) finely embroidered and fringed with chenillettes, decorated with the Chrism** at the top, as well as a stylized floral and plant motif, from the 19th century .
This conopea is in good condition. Nice quality.

in the Catholic liturgy, the conopeia is the veil covering the tabernacle where the consecrated hosts are located. It can be declined according to the various colors of liturgical times. For Catholics, it is one of the signs which manifest the real presence of Christ, because it symbolically recalls the tent of the Exodus which sheltered the Ark of the Covenant, symbol of the presence of God. In many churches it is no longer used, in particular because it hides a door decorated with biblical scenes or symbolic motifs.
** Chrism: It is formed from the first two intertwined letters of the Greek name of Christ, Χριστός, khi and rho. This calligraphy can be completed with a horizontal bar reminiscent of the cross. It is often accompanied by the alpha and omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, which qualify the person of Christ as he himself proclaimed in the Apocalypse of Saint John: “It is I who follow Alpha and Omega” (Rev 1:8). The whole can be surrounded by a circle or a mandorla (almond-shaped oval) to signify its divine origin.
