Small watercolor signed A. de Broca * and dated 1926 representing a view of a mansion in Clisson (Pays de la Loire) with its farmyard and some chickens in the foreground, vintage early twentieth century.
This watercolor is in good condition. Signed and dated lower right. She was part of an exhibition of miniaturist (cf dos). She is under glass.

Alexis de Broca (1868-1948): painter from Nantes, his studio was located rue de Rosière in Nantes. Son of a stern navy officer and inventor at his hours, Alexis de Broca had made the Beaux-Arts. He was a close friend of the photographer Victor Girard of Nantes met the 62nd Infantry Regiment in 1885. With him, he will meet several times the famous actress Sara Bernhardt in Belle-Ile. He exhibited at the 2nd and 4th Exhibition of the Society of Artists Nantais. He lived in Nantes and on the Breton coast during the beautiful season, traveling through North Africa, Spain and Italy during the bad weather; he came back with pictures: landscapes, scenes of everyday life; Orientalism being fashionable, these paintings sold very well at these exhibitions in France. He had been received, notably, at the court of Queen Ravanalo in Madagascar, at the King of Morocco, at Marshal Lyautey and at Tunis Bey. Alexis de Broca was the grandfather of filmmaker Philippe de Broca.
