** René Trouin, Sieur du Gué, dit Duguay-Trouin, born June 10, 1673 in Saint-Malo and died September 27, 1736 in Paris, is a French privateer and admiral. Born into a family of shipowners from Saint-Malo, he began his career in 1689 and, in 1691, received command of a ship. His courage, the respect he gained from his men, as well as his victories against the English and the Dutch during the last two wars of Louis XIV ensured him a very rapid rise in the maritime hierarchy.

* Albert Brenet (1903 - 2005)

is a French painter, poster artist, sculptor and illustrator. In 1929, he embarked on the three-masted Bonchamp, one of the last large French commercial sailing ships, as a passenger. During the trip, he took part in the maneuvers and produced numerous drawings, paintings and sketches. In Martinique, he found new subjects of inspiration and in particular the fish market and he carried out numerous studies of colorful fish. This trip marks an important turning point in his career since the sea supplants animals as a source of inspiration. On his return to France, he abandoned oil painting for gouache on the advice of his friend the painter Mathurin Méheut.When the National Maritime Museum opened at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris in 1943, he exhibited three paintings on Toulon. In 1944, he produced the poster for the La Marine au combat exhibition for this same museum. Albert Brenet crisscrosses the seas of the world on various ships making sketches, oil paintings, gouaches of ships, ports but also scenes from the life of crews. He always paints on the spot. He is as interested in landscapes as in street scenes or people. He follows the news and is interested in the technological developments of his time. He takes advantage of his embarkation on Navy ships to paint the countries where he stops.
