Watercolor signed L. Timmermans* representing a marine landscape, with fishing boats from Concarneau (Brittany), probably tuna boats leaving the port, in a gilded wooden frame, from the late 19th century.

This watercolor is in good condition, as is its frame. It is under glass. Signed lower left.

Please note: some light stains on the paper, slight wear and tear, see photos.

* Louis Etienne Timmermans (1846-1910)

Belgian painter of landscapes, waterscapes, seascapes, watercolorist. He studied at the Brussels Academy, then at the Beaux-Arts in Paris where he became a professor. He exhibited Breton, Norman, and Dutch seascapes at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, receiving an honorable mention in 1904. Specializing in seascapes and port themes, he used many details to enliven his landscapes. He worked mainly in the ports of the English Channel and the North Sea and also traveled across Brittany from Saint-Servan to Camaret or from Paimpol to Lorient to renew his sources of inspiration.
