* Ernest Fort (1868-1938)

Bachelor letter, he devoted the first part of his life to drawing. A year before the war 14 Bayonne Mayor Joseph Garat, who had noticed his interest in local culture, first offered him a secretary and inspector of the Communal Library and Archives. During the war, he will be responsible for learning workshops. Although reformed, it is distinguished by its dedication by receiving the Medal of French recognition at the end of the conflict. These years, Ernest Fort left a very detailed account, almost "scientific", which completed its talented drawings - on the edge of caricature - Popular soldiers and characters of local life. The aesthetics of his drawings will make his reputation with collectors of that time and of which the city of Bayonne has decided to acquire some of the drawings for the Basque museum in this year of commemoration of the Great War. (See website the week of the Basque Country).
