The carved wooden objects from the Black Forest are not originally from Germany but were made in the Brienz region of Switzerland. The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of carved wood on the facades of houses, furniture or everyday objects. Sculptors excel especially in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the 19th century, these naturalist sculptures from the black forest became very fashionable and highly prized.
