The carved wooden objects from the Black Forest are not originally from Germany but were made in the Brienz region of Switzerland . The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of carved wood on the facades of houses , furniture or everyday objects . Sculptors excel especially in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the 19th century, these naturalist sculptures from the black forest became very fashionable and highly prized.
