Small carved wooden wall console called Black Forest * representing a chamois head among foliage, XIXth century.
This console is in good condition and is of good quality.

The Black Forest carved wooden objects do not originate in Germany but were made in the region of Brienz, Switzerland. The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of carved wood on the facades of houses, furniture or everyday objects. The sculptors excel in particular in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the 19th century, these naturalistic sculptures of the black forest became very fashionable and very popular.
