Carved wooden objects from the Black Forest did not originate in Germany but were made in the Brienz region of Switzerland. The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of carved wood on the facades of houses, furniture or everyday objects. The sculptors excel in particular in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the 19th century, these naturalistic sculptures from the black forest became very fashionable and highly prized.
