Large hunting trophy sculpture in carved wood from the Black Forest (Black Forest*) representing a small chamois and a partridge, suspended among a rifle, a game bag and some foliage, from the 19th century.
This sculpture is in good condition. It is very decorative due to its large size.
Note: breaks and missing parts on a horn and an ear of the chamois (see red arrows), slight accidents in places (for example on the edge of a wing), old worm holes, wear and tear over time, see photos (see arrows red).
Carved wooden objects from the Black Forest did not originate in Germany but were made in the Brienz region of Switzerland. The tradition of woodworking is ancestral in this region, the inhabitants perpetuate the practice of carved wood on the facades of houses, furniture or everyday objects. The sculptors excel in particular in the representation of wild animals in their natural environment. In the 19th century, these naturalistic sculptures from the black forest became very fashionable and highly prized.
