Rare walnut sculpture, representing St. Cecilia *, the patron saint of musicians, holding a violin, then late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.
This sculpture is in good condition, it is in its own juice. It is a remarkable delicacy of sculpture (including the face and scalp).

Christian saint. She had lived in Rome, to early Christian times. His legend actually a virgin, forcibly married, continued to respect her vow of virginity. She lived in Sicily, according Venance Fortunatus, and died for the faith in Rome at a time uncertain. She was ultimately doomed to martyrdom, after having converted many people, including her husband. A passage from his legend says that by going to martyrdom she heard celestial music. This story will make the patron saint of musicians, instrument makers and other manufacturers of musical instruments. She is represented with a crown of flowers, a lily plant, a musical instrument and a sword. This is one of the martyrs of the early Church's most revered, mentioned in the canon of the mass from 496.
